“It’s all connected” is not just a saying.
It has become cliche to hear that “we are all one, we are all part of the whole.” But I ponder what does this mean on both the larger, galactic level, as well as the more personal and intimate meaning of “oneness?” Indeed, this line of questioning can be the very impetus for looking at the night sky and seeing our place in the universe as something that connects us to a timeline of growth and expansion bigger than just what we see and currently can understand. We may conclude that we are both insignificant specs of coalesced space dust, AND the center of the universe as beings of consciousness in the accelerated process of transformation morphing into something incredibly special and significant.
I love to explore and open to input that shapes and transforms my interpretations and understanding of the nature of reality. I am an avid reader and viewer of YouTube videos that give me insight from multiple sources, both mundane and mystical, science based as well as spiritual. In my studies of yogic philosophy and the evolution of Eastern thought I have learned that there is not just one interpretation of the nature of reality. One school of Indian thought, Advaita Vedanta, holds that all we know and experience on the physical level is illusion; we live in a holographic projection, an illusion referred to as “maya.” The Tantric thought that grew out of Vedanta holds more to the “yes, but…” view. This holds that it is all real on the experienceable level while it is also energy in motion on a path towards dissolution.
This reality that we know is both illusory and real. The temporal lives we live, and the experiences we have, give us meaning and purpose on the merits of existence itself. Stub your toe on a door jam and try telling yourself that your pain is illusion and see how that turns out. Yet we have the choice to learn to pay attention and pick up our feet next time, or not.
Schoolhouse Earth
So why are we here in this world that seems very real, yet ephemeral at the same time. In the Tantric world view this reality is the scenario for experience and limitless creativity. We are here to learn, create, love, and make connections that unify our consciousness with the grander Consciousness. Light and dark exist as the field of polarity that makes contrast and creative expansion possible. Each being exists on its own merits, its validity found in the very act of being and experiencing. This is for our own growth and as part of an interwoven force of nature that transcends humanity and unites us with a bigger awareness. As the forces of balance are in a constant state of flux, life force is forever morphing into new shapes and expressions. Sometimes it is in a state of expansion, other times contraction and dissolution. What is constant is the field of Super Consciousness that contains the whole, yet in its transcendence, is not limited by it.
Our current state of social contraction is part of the web of life that is intimately connected to the pulse of expansion and contraction. As the growing masses become clearer about how we want to resonate with Source, we have the opportunity to use what is happening around us to grow into our next higher level of loving interconnectivity. The turmoil begets awareness of what we don’t want to experience and how our thoughts, words and actions can be harnessed to shape a new and more balanced expression of life.
As we recognize the gains achieved through scientific materialism–medicine, technology, access to helpful conveniences, etc.–we are also given the opportunity to see the detrimental sides of choices we have made, those that are oblivious to our interconnectivity. We can change and evolve our world views and personal behaviors based on our real-world observation of what is working, and what is not. We are not fixed in space and time but are evolving in an ever-expanding spiral of growth and transformation..
On the cusp of transformation
As our scientific knowledge expands, we are also able to expand our sense of who we are as part of a bigger picture of unfolding consciousness and how it shapes our expression of beingness. Indeed, we have learned through new archeological discoveries that humans have lived far longer, and in greater numbers, than previously believed. Humans have cycled through many advanced states of being and societal evolution. We can even see the patterns of de-evolution as evidenced by lost knowledge, environmental awareness, and succumbing to aggressive social hierarchies.
Historically, humans have possessed knowledge of working stone and shaping monuments that baffle our minds and surpass current technological capacities. At one time we knew how to cut and place monolithic stones that no machinery today can do. Archeologist are having to write, and re-write, interpretations of how and when societies formed and evolved. Beyond analyzing human beings as the sole possessors of consciousness and a deep connection with nature, we are expanding our understanding of intelligence and sentience in other species, from the smallest insect to the largest stand of forest. New awareness is revealing how interwoven life on this planet is. We are waking up to new levels of understanding and sensitivity, and are being humbled by what we are learning along the way.
As one who has been tracking human and planetary evolution for most of my life I am pleased to be living in this time of discovery and reevaluation. We are gaining insight into who we are and what our role is in the greater picture of existence. What really excites me is the thought that we are on the cusp of the next big stage of evolution. We are opening to the possibilities of our galactic relationships, that we may be more than just this biomass that transformed from a protein strand in some ancient primordial ooze. We are learning about our connection to the stars and how the interstellar building blocks of life, deposited by passing comets, may have seeded the DNA that evolved into us. Our expanded consciousness may be what ties us into the larger web of life. It may be what shapes our capacity to return to the stars, and hopefully welcome other life forms that might want to interact with us here on Earth.
We are here to learn and grow as creator beings.
As technology has advanced, so too has our spiritual sensitivities. We may be at the very edge of understanding how our precious material world and planet are the playground of Consciousness experiencing itself in an ever-expanding field of awareness and creativity. This sensitivity to our spiritual nature, as well as our material form and focus, may be the very force of transformation that may right the imbalance caused by the contraction that scientific materialism has rendered.
As we define who we are and how we want to live, this may be the very force of evolution that marks the maturity of a species capable of opening to a galactic community. We may just be ready to return to a connection to the stars and an interconnectivity of beings that our ancient ancestors were keenly aware of, but much of modern society lost along the way. The trials and tribulations of today may be the very forces that are turning us into beings capable of understanding that humans are unique and precious children of the stars. That our mother Earth is part of a larger community. The transformational forces we are experiencing, albeit painful, may be opening us to reconnect with our other-worldly and multi-dimensional brothers and sisters who have been watching and waiting for signs of conscious evolution from afar.
